Ep. 42 - T.U.N.E. Your State of Mind: How to Think at a Higher Level

Recently, we had the esteemed Jon Gordon as a guest with us. Jon is an internationally recognized author of the book The Energy Bus, a speaker, and a coach who has been helping people unlock their potential for over 30 years. He believes that embracing a positive mindset can create a life of joy and fulfillment.

We all know that having a positive attitude can tremendously impact our lives, but how do we elevate our thinking to a level that adopts it? Jon Gordon has dedicated his life to exploring this concept and unlocking the power of positivity.


The truth is that it's not circumstances that hold you back but your state of mind that affects you. It goes back to the message of the coffee bean we change things from the inside out, not the outside in.

T - Trust and Truth: The Foundation for Success


Trust and truth form the foundation of our relationships with ourselves and others. So often, doubt comes in, but let's trust and speak truth to ourselves. 


We've been successful before, and we can be successful again. We have everything we need inside of us to be great. Otherwise, we wouldn't have the desire to be great. You win by tapping into that greatness. 


We just have these voices that say, "You're not great," "You're not gonna make it," "It's not gonna happen." That's the battle of our minds that's going on every day. Those negative thoughts will sabotage us if we let them.


U - Unite with Love: Cast Out Fear and Negativity


Love is the great uniter, and it casts out fear, which often disguises itself as laziness, holding us back from being who we are meant to be. 


When fear sets in, just get back to loving, playing, loving the competition, loving the moment, loving the battle. Don't worry about the outcome, what others think, or what social media says. Show up every day from the inside out and love it. If you love what you do and who you’re doing it with, fear will have no power over you.


N - Neutralize Negativity: Speak Words of Encouragement to Yourself


Negative thoughts are lies that will tell you things that aren't true about yourself and your future. Speak truth to the lies. Neutralize negativity. When those negative thoughts come in, don't allow them to bring you down. 


Stop them and start speaking words of encouragement and life to yourself. Encourage yourself daily, putting courage into yourself. 


Dr. James Gills, the only person on the planet that completes six double Ironman triathlons, said, "I've learned to talk to myself instead of listen to myself. If I listen, I hold the fear, the negativity, the doubt, all the reasons why I can't finish this race, but if I talk to myself, I could feed myself with the words and the encouragement that I need to keep on moving forward."


E - Elevate Your Thinking: Cultivate Positivity, Gratitude, and Appreciation


We need to elevate our thinking with positivity, gratitude, and appreciation. The more we feed ourselves with optimism, belief, and positivity, the more resilient we become, able to take on the challenges we face. The research shows that we can't be stressed and thankful simultaneously. 


Acknowledge the challenge in the situation and take a positive perspective that we can overcome it. Being positive doesn't guarantee success, but being negative guarantees failure.
